What A Hero's Journey: The Making of Percy Jackson and the Olympians Is About
Joel Edwards's 2024 documentary covers the making of the Percy Jackson series. The camera goes behind the set: costume workshops, digital backdrop walls, stunt rehearsals and the long shooting days of child actors. It foregrounds the involvement of Rick Riordan, the author of the books, and his wish that the adaptation stay close to the text after being unhappy with earlier film versions forms one axis of the account. The casting of the three young leads and their daily lives off set are included too. The promotional purpose is plain; the film offers no critical view and softens the difficulties. The sections on production technique do give concrete information. Who it's for: people who watched the series and viewers curious about how things are made. Who it's not for: anyone expecting an independent assessment; this is a promotional piece made by the production.
