What Behind the Curtain: Stranger Things: The First Shadow Is About
Jonathan Halperin's 2025 documentary covers the making of the stage play that takes the Stranger Things universe into the theatre. The play tells a story set in Hawkins years before the events of the series and has to build live on stage the effects seen on television. Its most concrete section is that technical challenge: objects in flight, abrupt changes of place and actors working with rigs the audience cannot see. The writer Kate Trefry and the stage crew describe the preparation, and casting, rehearsals and the first performance before an audience are recorded. The film offers no critical view and works as promotion for the production, while giving concrete information for anyone interested in stagecraft. Who it's for: viewers curious about theatre production and behind-the-scenes documentary. Who it's not for: anyone unfamiliar with the series or the play; the documentary assumes both.
