What A Man Called Autumn Flower Is About
Lluis de Serracant is the son of a wealthy family and a lawyer. At night he changes identity: he performs in a small cabaret, and his audience knows him as Autumn Flower. The story is set in Barcelona in the twenties, under the dictatorship of Primo de Rivera. Lluis has an anarchist lover, and the two of them share the same ideas. Together they plan an action against a train the dictator is to travel on. The film tells the double life not as a flaw to be hidden but as two sides of the same person. The work is based on real events, with some names changed. José Sacristán, who plays Lluis, was named best actor for it at San Sebastián in 1978. Pedro Olea’s hundred minute Spanish film was completed in 1978.
