What A Matter of Life and Death Is About
Anas Ba Tahaf's 2026 Saudi film follows Haya, convinced she will die before thirty. She therefore postpones nothing and takes one risk after another. One of her stunts lands her in the emergency room, where she meets Youssef, a heart surgeon. The film builds the two as opposites; the narrative follows romantic comedy form with fantastical elements folded in. Sarah Taibah leads. The tone is fast and colourful. The production belongs to the new wave of Saudi cinema. Who it's for: those who like recent Gulf cinema and romantic comedy. Who it's not for: viewers uncomfortable with the fear of death handled in a light tone.
