A Storm Foretold: Det amerikanske oprør

The Danish director Christoffer Guldbrandsen stays at Roger Stone’s side through the final months of the Donald Trump administration. Stone presents himself as a right wing operator whose line runs back to the Nixon years, and in front of the camera he does not hide his contempt for his political opponents. The film records the Stop the Steal campaign he runs from his hotel suite and what that campaign becomes on the street. The director is inside the event in the days when the crowd converges on Washington and films the storming of the Congress building. From there the account reaches a conclusion and says an established political party has turned into an anti-democratic movement; that judgement is the film’s own. Because the documentary stands so close to Stone, it largely leaves the work of testing what he says to the viewer. How much of the talk in front of the camera is performance is one of the questions the film asks. Christoffer Guldbrandsen’s ninety one minute Danish documentary was completed in 2023.
