Adam Borowski is a lawyer who prosecutes cases on behalf of the state, from smuggling and theft to child abandonment and racially motivated assault. But his own life is nothing to hold up as a model: he is deep in debt, he is working out how to avoid the hospital costs of his terminally ill mother, he is married and has affairs, and to reduce his tax he has got himself into a donation scheme of doubtful legality. When his wife wants to adopt a disabled child, he uses his influence to slow the paperwork down. The film is about a man who applies the law and keeps a separate morality for himself. Jerzy Stuhr wrote, directed and played the lead in the eighty nine minute Polish film, completed in 1999.
