Accumulator 1

Everyone who appears on television has a double inside the screen. That double needs energy from the real person to stay alive. So the more television a person watches, the weaker they get. Nobody knows this, and people are dying in front of their sets. Olda is one of them, getting weaker by the day. The doctors find nothing. Eventually he comes across a healer called Fisarek, who teaches him to draw energy from elsewhere: from trees, from animals, from other people. Jan Svěrák directs the Czech film; a hundred and two minutes, with Petr Forman as Olda. His father Zdeněk Svěrák wrote the script and appears in it. It was the most expensive Czech production of its year; a few years later Svěrák won an Oscar with Kolya.
