What Dark Blue World Is About
When Germany occupies Czechoslovakia in 1939, two pilots, the experienced Franta and his young trainee Karel, escape the country for England and fly with the RAF. Living beside death in the air, they fall for the same woman. The film tells it looking back from a Czechoslovak prison in 1950, and that is where the real pain sits: men who fought in the West were treated as suspect at home after the war and many were imprisoned. Jan Sverak also directed Kolya. The aerial combat holds up well for its time.
