Adam's Rib

Four women from three generations live in a small Moscow flat. A bedridden grandmother constantly wants attention; the mother still hopes she can put a life together for herself; and both daughters have troubles of their own. The flat is cramped, money is short and everyone’s patience has a limit. The film tells this not as drama but as bitter comedy; the women putting up with each other and holding on to each other sit inside the same scene. It was adapted from a story by Anatoly Kurchatkin. The account also shows that men can enter this flat only as visitors; the house belongs to the women and to their own rules. Inna Churikova plays the lead in Viacheslav Kryshtofovych’s seventy nine minute film, completed in 1990.
