Alles op Tafel

Will Koopman's 2021 Dutch film follows seven friends who meet for dinner. A game is proposed: everyone puts their phone on the table and every message and call will be heard by all. Nobody objects. The film opens the consequences of that setup in turn. Each phone reveals another secret and the relationships at the table break down one by one; the narrative leaves nobody innocent. It is a remake of an Italian film and the structure is largely preserved; that plot has been shot separately in many countries. A single location, a pace close to real time and dialogue close to theatre set the form. Who it's for: those who like single-location drama and relationship comedy. Who it's not for: viewers looking for an original plot; the film is a local adaptation of a familiar structure.
