Nothing to Hide

Fred Cavayé wrote and directed this adaptation of Paolo Genovese’s 2016 film Perfetti Sconosciuti. The source has an unusual record: Guinness World Records lists it as the most remade film, with versions in 24 different languages. The Turkish version, Cebimdeki Yabancı, opened on 2 February 2018, 8 months before the French one, and both work from the same screenplay. Cavayé’s working title was De parfaits inconnus. Shooting ran from October to December 2017; the exteriors were filmed in Vincennes and the closing scene on the Pont de Tolbiac in Paris. The budget came to 7,990,000 euros. In France the film sold 1,639,781 tickets over 12 weeks. Among the producers is Medset Film, a subsidiary of the Italian company Taodue. The roles around the table are set out early: Vincent is a cosmetic surgeon, Marie a psychoanalyst, and the evening falls on a total lunar eclipse. Vincent is played by the Belgian actor Stéphane De Groodt and Charlotte by the Canadian Suzanne Clément. A good fit if you want a film that stays at one table and draws its tension only from the notifications coming in. Not for viewers who would be troubled by homophobic abuse aimed at someone at that table; the BBFC noted it separately in the classification.
