Namo Tongkumnerd What Alone Is About
Pim and Ploy are twins joined at the abdomen. Pim insists on separation and only she survives the surgery. Years later, settled into a new life in Korea, her mother's illness pulls her back to Thailand and her dead sister comes with it. Banjong Pisanthanakun and Parkpoom Wongpoom wrote and directed, having already made Shutter. The Thai title simply means twin. For lead Marsha Vadhanapanich this was a first film role after fifteen years away. She plays both Pim and Ploy, with the conjoined scenes built from split frames and body doubles. The film took 9.3 million dollars, part of the stretch when Thai horror was reaching international distribution. The structure rests on a twist, and once the twist lands the film doubles back and retells itself. Who it is for: fans of slow, atmosphere-led Asian horror. Who it is not for: anyone worn out by sudden sound stings; the film leans on them often.
