What American Wrestler: The Wizard Is About
In 1980 a teenager who has escaped Iran comes to live with his uncle in California. He finds no peace in America either: the hostage crisis is still running and being Iranian means insults and attacks at school every day. He finds his way to fitting in through the wrestling team nobody takes seriously. The story is true, and one of the people who made the film is the man who really did arrive from Iran and wrestle in California in those years. It stays inside the sports film template, and its value is in the history and in showing the prejudice of the period directly.
