What AmnesiA Is About

Alex, a twenty eight year old photographer, can no longer photograph people; every time he looks through the viewfinder the same woman’s face appears and he cannot bear it. When Aram, the brother he has not seen for years, calls one day to say their mother is gravely ill and has little time left, Alex panics; he does not want to go back to the place he grew up or to his family. Even so he sets out that evening for AmnesiA, his parents’ house, and there what has never been said between him and his twin slowly comes out. Martin Koolhoven’s ninety minute Dutch film builds its tension around a family secret. Fedja van Huêt plays both Alex and Aram, and Carice van Houten the woman opposite him. It was completed in 2001.
