Andai Ibu Tidak Menikah Dengan Ayah

Kuntz Agus's 2025 Indonesian film begins with the return of a daughter who has long lived away from home. Alin is studying medicine and has to come back when her scholarship is at risk, and what she finds is not what she expected. Her mother has been living in hardship for years and her father is almost never at home. Alin sees the arrangement through adult eyes for the first time and begins asking why her mother has kept the marriage going. The film's title comes from that question. The story does not make the father a one-dimensional villain, but neither does it endorse the mother's acceptance; its real subject is the difference between two generations' understanding of womanhood and sacrifice. The tone is measured and the pace slow. The scenes between Amanda Rawles and Sha Ine Febriyanti are its strength. Who it's for: viewers who like family drama and stories of generational conflict. Who it's not for: anyone expecting a resolved ending; the film leaves the question open.
