2nd Miracle in Cell No. 7

Herwin Novianto's 2024 film continues an adaptation that was a major box office success in Indonesia. The prisoners keep protecting the daughter of one of their own; this time her adoption by her caretakers is formally blocked. The series comes from a Korean original and largely preserves its emotional formula: a wrongly convicted father with an intellectual disability, solidarity in the cell block and a child's innocence. The sequel repeats that formula and adds nothing new. Vino G. Bastian plays the father. The film does not detail the legal process; its aim is emotional effect, and the music and the length of the scenes are set accordingly. It was among the most-watched productions of the year in Indonesia. Who it's for: family audiences who saw the first film and want the continuation. Who it's not for: viewers who dislike emotional manipulation; the film does it openly and continually.
