Ask Any Girl

Meg is a young woman who has come to New York hoping to find someone to marry, and the city gives her a hard time from the first day. She loses her suitcase at the station, her flatmate puts her out, and she has to leave her job when her employer makes a pass at her. In the end she finds work at a research agency run by a fastidious man and his philandering brother. When Meg starts applying the methods she has learned at work to her own life, matters become tangled altogether. The film works with the moulds of American romantic comedy at the end of the fifties, yet it also shows what happens to a woman who works. It was adapted from a novel. Shirley MacLaine and David Niven appear in Charles Walters’s ninety eight minute American film, completed in 1959.
