Tait, an American college of the 1920s, has the whole air of the period about it: football games, dances, fashion. Connie, who works in the library, falls for Tommy, the school's football star. But Tommy has his eye on Pat, who is looking for a rich husband. When Tommy's grades slip, his place in the big game is at risk, and Connie steps in. Charles Walters directed this musical from a stage show of 1927. It was his first feature, and it was also the first film work for Betty Comden and Adolph Green, who wrote the screenplay. Arthur Freed produced. June Allyson and Peter Lawford take the leads, with Mel Tormé and Joan McCracken in the cast. Colour, pace and dance are the whole point of the film.
