What Easter Parade Is About
Broadway, 1911. When his partner and the woman he loves walks out on him, the dancer Don Hewes makes a stubborn claim: he will take the first girl he meets and turn her into a star within the year. The girl is Hannah, willing and completely untrained. A year of rehearsals, arguments and jealousy leaves them both somewhere other than they intended. Songs by Irving Berlin. The role was Gene Kelly's until he broke an ankle and suggested bringing Fred Astaire out of retirement.
