ATM

This 2012 Thai comedy turns a corporate rule into the engine of a romance. Sua and Jib have been together five years but have kept it hidden, because the bank they work for forbids staff from dating. When they decide to marry, one of them will have to resign. Just then an ATM malfunctions and starts paying out double, and the bank assigns the pair to recover the loss: whoever claws back more money keeps their job. An engaged couple becomes a pair of competitors overnight. Mez Tharatorn keeps the pace high and draws the comedy from the collision between the relationship and the careers riding on it. It was one of the biggest local hits in Thailand that year. Who it's for: viewers who enjoy Thai popular comedy and relationships that turn into contests. Who it's not for: anyone wanting a realistic look at banking or a restrained sense of humour; the film leans into exaggeration on purpose.
