Ani Ghazaryan R Rafael Melqonyan What Aurora's Sunrise Is About
The film tells the story of Aurora Mardiganian, born in 1901. As a child she survived the deportations and massacres that began in 1915, lost her family and reached America; there she told what she had lived through, her account was made into a silent film, and she appeared in it herself. The film names these events the Armenian genocide and rests its account on Mardiganian’s own testimony. The production joins animation to documentary material, using as well the fragments that survive of that earlier film. The account puts one person’s testimony at its centre. Inna Sahakyan’s ninety seven minute Armenian documentary was completed in 2023.
