Azhakiya Ravanan

Shankar Das, a rich businessman fond of boasting, returns to his village after many years, meaning to win Anuradha, the girl he loved in childhood. But she has meanwhile begun to take an interest in someone else, and the villagers do not take his airs seriously either. On a friend’s advice Shankar Das decides to become a film producer, which will both impress Anuradha and earn him respect in the village. As the plan proceeds it gets away from him, and a question of pride emerges from under the comedy. The screenplay of Kamal’s hundred and fifty three minute Malayalam film was written by Sreenivasan; Mammootty takes the lead opposite Bhanupriya. The music is Vidyasagar’s first work in Malayalam; it opened on 9 February 1996.
