Baronesa

Andreia and Leid are neighbours. They live in the north of Belo Horizonte. The neighbourhood is called Vila Mariquinhas. The film follows their daily life. Housework, children, conversations. What they talk about is plain and real. Outside, a fight over the drug trade is going on. Going out is not always safe. The rain is a threat of its own. When it comes the houses take damage. Andreia wants to move to another neighbourhood. The place she wants to go is called Baronesa. That is where the film’s title comes from. The people on screen are not professional actors. Juliana Antunes worked with them for five years. The seventy one minute film is the director’s first feature, a Brazilian production released in 2018.
