Batkid Begins

Miles Scott was treated for leukaemia at five and was granted a wish. His wish was to be Batman for a day. On 15 November 2013 the city of San Francisco did it: streets were closed, made-up criminals were arrested, the mayor said thank you, and tens of thousands came out to cheer the boy. That same day the event spread around the world on the internet. Dana Nachman's documentary is not about the day but about how the day was built: how a small wish organisation became unable to manage tens of thousands of volunteers, the phone calls of the woman doing the planning, how social media made the thing bigger. Miles's parents speak as well, and what they say is the plainest part of the film. Hans Zimmer wrote the music. The telling is emotional, but it does not present the event as a miracle; it shows how many people worked on it.
