What Before Summer Ends Is About
After five years of study in Paris, Arash, who has never settled there, decides to go back to Iran. Hearing this, his two friends Hossein and Ashkan talk him into one last journey, a drive into the French countryside. Along the way they camp, talk to people they do not know, cook kebabs and tease each other; what is really being discussed is a loneliness none of them says out loud. The camera sits among the three men, and most of the scenes happen inside the car. Maryam Goormaghtigh’s eighty minute Swiss French documentary was made with three real friends, in a form that stands between fiction and documentary. It was completed in 2017.
