What Being Good Is About
Three stories set in the same town run into one another. In the first, a teacher new to a primary school struggles both to hold his class together and to talk to the parents, and when he works out that one of his pupils is being hurt at home he has to decide what to do. In the second, a young mother who cannot get out from under what happened in her own childhood is violent towards her small daughter. The third story takes place in the same town, behind another door. Drawn from a book of short stories, the three parts look at who is unable to ask for help, without making the violence a spectacle. Mipo O’s hundred and twenty one minute Japanese film was completed in 2015.
