What Big Easy Express Is About

In April 2011 three bands, Mumford and Sons, Edward Sharpe and The Magnetic Zeros, and Old Crow Medicine Show, boarded a vintage train for an eight day tour together. The train left California and made six stops before reaching New Orleans, playing a concert at each one, and the camera records both the stages and the shared life that forms in the carriages. Emmett Malloy’s sixty six minute documentary can therefore be watched as a road movie and as a concert film at once. It premiered on the closing night of South by Southwest on 17 March 2012, won the audience award at that festival, and took the Grammy for best music film in 2013.
