What Blondie Johnson Is About
A young woman flattened by the Depression quits her job after her boss harasses her, is evicted along with her sick mother, and cannot get relief money either. Once her mother dies she resolves to get rich, and she uses her brains rather than her body to climb from small time confidence tricks to the top of a criminal organisation. Along the way she falls in love with Danny, one of the men in the gang, and that feeling eventually becomes the weakest point in everything she has built. Ray Enright’s sixty eight minute film was made at First National with a script by Earl Baldwin and photography by Tony Gaudio, and it opened on 25 February 1933. Joan Blondell, Chester Morris, Allen Jenkins and Claire Dodd star in a picture that never softens its heroine.
