Bodyguard

Siddique's 2010 Malayalam film follows Jayakrishnan, assigned to protect his employer's daughter. He takes the job far too seriously, and when she tires of it she uses a false name to make him fall in love with her over the phone. The premise rests on that joke. Jayakrishnan does not know who he is talking to; the narrative keeps this as comedy until the woman begins taking her own game seriously and the situation turns over. Dileep and Nayanthara lead. The film was a large commercial success in Kerala and was remade in several languages soon after. The tone is light and the action passages exaggerated. Who it's for: those who like commercial Malayalam romantic comedy. Who it's not for: viewers uncomfortable with romance built on deception; the film uses it throughout.
