Siddique's 2011 Tamil film is his own remake of his earlier Malayalam picture. Bhoomi is an unruly young man given to fighting; his family sends him to a respected man to be straightened out and he takes on the job of bodyguard to the man's daughter. Meena looks down on him as a country boy, mocks him with her friends and starts writing to him online under a false identity. The comedy comes from that deception and turns to action once the threat becomes real. The story follows the conventions of Tamil commercial cinema: family scenes, fights, songs and Vadivelu's comic sections. The class difference between the guard and the guarded is treated superficially, and the woman's initial behaviour is forgiven easily afterwards. It was one of Vijay's box office pictures. Who it's for: viewers who like Tamil commercial cinema and romantic comedy. Who it's not for: anyone who knows the Malayalam original; this version is louder.
