Canned Dreams

The documentary takes up the food industry. The account begins with a single tin. A Finnish shopper buys the tin at the grocer’s. From there the film works backwards. The questions are simple but the chain is long. Where do the raw materials in the tin come from. Which countries does the packaging come out of. Through how many hands does the product pass. The work follows every stage of production. But it does not stop at describing the process. It gives a voice to the people who work in it. What they say makes up the body of the film. Katja Gauriloff’s Danish, Finnish, French and Portuguese coproduction of 2012 runs seventy five minutes.
