Casa Susanna

The documentary looks back at the fifties and sixties. At the centre of the account is a house. The house stands at the foot of the Catskills. It is a wooden building with a barn behind it. A secret gathering met there. Those who came spent their time in women’s clothes. Doing so outside was not possible. The person who set the place up was called Susanna. The house came to be known by her name. Diane and Kate remember those days. Both of them are eighty now. What they tell is an early chapter of trans history. Katherine Cummings and Diana Merry-Shapiro appear in the ninety seven minute documentary, a French and American coproduction Sebastien Lifshitz finished in 2022.
