Checkered Ninja 3

The third film in Denmark's most-watched animated series. Anders Matthesen writes and voices it, and the arrangement set up across the first two films changes here. Alex is now more interested in his friends than in ninja missions, and Checkered Ninja feels unnecessary. That pulls the series toward a story about adolescence. The humour has built a cross-generational web of references in Denmark; because the jokes rest on a particular use of the language, some of it is lost in translation. The action is fast, the animation standard is high and the pace is set for young viewers. The idea underneath is visibility: what do you do when someone no longer needs you. The series has never handled that theme this openly before, and it stays folded into the comedy. Who it's for: families who know the series and anyone curious about Danish animation. Who it's not for: newcomers; the characters' history is established in the earlier two films and is not summarised here.
