Checkered Ninja

For his birthday Aksel is given a checkered ninja doll his uncle brought back from Thailand. The doll talks and has a purpose: to settle accounts for the child labourer who died in the factory that made it. Aksel has accounts of his own, since there is someone at school poisoning his life. The two go into business together. Anders Matthesen adapted his own novel, directed it and voiced most of the characters. It looks like a children's film and its language and subject are entirely adult, with the chain of exploitation, cheap labour and a Danish businessman's factory in Thailand sitting inside the story. It became the most watched Danish film of the century at home. Who it is for: viewers who like adult animation and black humour. Who it is not for: anyone planning to watch with children, since it is not as innocent as the title.
