Cock-A-Doodle-Doo! Mr Chicken

Three friends trade in chickens. Lam is the one leading it. Damouré and Tallou are with him. The plan is to gather chickens and sell them in Niamey. They set off in an old car. The car is called Cocorico. It has no brakes. Its lights do not work. It has no papers either. It breaks down over and over on the road. Chickens turn out to be hard to find, and crossing the Niger is a matter in itself. Most of the film was improvised, and the car’s breakdowns kept changing the plan. Jean Rouch, Damouré Zika and Lam Ibrahim Dia made the ninety three minute film together, a Nigerien and French production finished in 1974.
