Crash and Burn

Tommy Byrne is an Irish racing driver. He comes from a working class family. In the lower categories he shows unusual speed. The races he wins carry him up the ladder. By the nineteen eighties he stands at the edge of Formula One. There his character draws as much attention as his talent. He does not bend to rules or to hierarchy. That stance collides with the closed order of the sport. His time in Formula One is short and rough. After it the road turns downward. The documentary joins interviews with archive footage. Figures from the racing world talk about him. Byrne gives his own account in his own words. The film leaves the question of what might have been open. Tommy Byrne and Eddie Jordan appear in the eighty six minute documentary. It is an Irish and British production Seán Ó Cualáin finished in 2016.
