Ryan Coogler's 2015 film follows Adonis, the son of a famous boxer. He never knew his father and does not want to use his name. He asks his father's old rival to train him. The film renews the known shape of the series; the narrative places Rocky in the trainer's position and makes his illness a second line. Michael B. Jordan and Sylvester Stallone lead. One fight was shot in a single take. The tone is heavy and emotional. Who it's for: those who like boxing films and followers of the series. Who it's not for: viewers expecting the tone of the earlier instalments; this one moves more quietly.
