What Creem: America's Only Rock 'n' Roll Magazine Is About
Creem was a music magazine. It was founded in Detroit in 1969. It was not like the other magazines. Its language was sharp, mocking and direct. So were its writers. Lester Bangs wrote for it. The magazine followed the bands of the period closely. It was not shy about praising new work. When it saw fit it wrote ruthlessly. In time it built a readership of its own. The documentary looks at those twelve years. People who worked there and musicians speak. The publisher Barry Kramer died young in 1981. His death was a turning point for the magazine as well. Alice Cooper and Joan Jett speak in the seventy five minute documentary, an American production Scott Crawford finished in 2019.
