What Cyborgs Is About
In 2014 the terminal at Donetsk airport was held for two hundred and forty-two days. Soldiers from units of the Ukrainian army and from volunteer battalions stayed there until the terminal was completely destroyed; the other side called them cyborgs, and the name stuck. The film picks a handful of men out of that defence. They came from different places for different reasons, and among themselves the argument about what the country is, who is in the right, and why they are there never stops. Akhtem Seitablayev builds the film out of waiting and argument rather than set pieces. It reached a wide audience in Ukraine and became a symbol of the period.
