What Dancing Dreams Is About

Forty secondary school students from more than eleven schools in Wuppertal work for a year on Kontakthof, the piece by Pina Bausch. The rehearsals are led by two of Bausch’s dancers, Jo-Ann Endicott and Bénédicte Billiet, and Bausch herself comes regularly to watch. The piece is about forms of contact between people, the meeting of women and men and the search for tenderness; for young people between fourteen and eighteen that means trying out on stage, again and again, feelings they cannot yet name. The young people going on stage at the end of that year makes up the last part of the film. The ninety two minute German documentary by Anne Linsel and Rainer Hoffmann was completed in 2010.
