Danger Signal

After robbing and killing the married woman he was involved with and making her death look like suicide, Ronnie Mason moves to Los Angeles. Under a new name, and claiming to be a writer, he takes a room in the house of Hilda Fenchurch and her mother. He courts Hilda because he knows she has money, but when he learns that her sister Anne has just inherited twenty five thousand dollars he turns his attention to her instead. Since the audience knows exactly who the man is from the start, the tension comes from waiting rather than from surprise. Adapted from a novel, the story runs in the noir vein of the forties and works by placing the criminal inside the house. Faye Emerson and Zachary Scott appear in Robert Florey’s seventy eight minute American film, completed in 1945.
