Death of a Nation: The Timor Conspiracy

The documentary takes East Timor as its subject. The island was invaded by Indonesia in 1975. A period of heavy violence followed. According to the film the number of dead is very high. The journalist John Pilger enters the territory. The director David Munro is with him. The two get into the country in secret. They film with small cameras. They pass themselves off as travel agents. Footage shot in 1991 is used in the film. That footage was taken in a cemetery in Dili. The documentary accuses Western governments. It argues that Britain, the United States and Australia knew. The charges it makes are the film’s own. John Pilger and Alan Clark appear in the sixty minute documentary. It is a British production David Munro finished in 1994.
