Year Zero: The Silent Death of Cambodia

The documentary shows Cambodia just after the Khmer Rouge. The footage was taken soon after the regime fell. The Pol Pot government is held responsible for the deaths of millions. Emptied cities and mass graves reach the screen. Hospitals and orphanages are in a desperate state. Food and medicine are almost absent. John Pilger reports the events in his own account. The film stands between journalism and campaigning. Pilger argues that other countries stayed silent about this. He criticises the delay in international aid directly. The documentary is plainly an advocacy film. No opposing voice is given room. The telling calls on the audience to act. The images are heavy and direct. John Pilger appears in the fifty two minute documentary. It is a British production David Munro finished in 1979.
