What The Windmill Is About
On the eve of the First World War, Sarıpınar is governed by a district official who notices neither the poverty of his town nor the flatterers around him. The local notables throw him a night of drinking at a mansion, and when the dancing shakes the house the drunken guests take it for an earthquake, stampede and injure one another. The next day the incident goes to Istanbul by telegraph and swells into a national affair. There was no earthquake; the governor does find ruined houses, but the ruin has another cause. Atıf Yılmaz's adaptation of Reşat Nuri Güntekin is a sharp satire of bureaucracy carried by Şener Şen.
