What Disgraced Is About
The documentary is about what happened at Baylor University in the summer of 2003. Patrick Dennehy, a player on the basketball team, was murdered; his teammate Carlton Dotson pleaded guilty, and it remains the only known case in college sports of one student athlete being convicted of killing another. Then a second story emerged: head coach Dave Bliss, trying to cover up rule violations in the programme, attempted to portray the dead player as a drug dealer, and he was secretly recorded saying so. Pat Kondelis’s roughly hundred minute film draws on students, investigators, family and friends, and it also opens Dotson’s plea and conviction to question, with Bliss himself appearing on camera.
