What The Scheme Is About
The documentary tells, through the words of Christian Dawkins, who was convicted in the case, the arrangement that got inside college basketball and moved hundreds of thousands of dollars to steer young players towards particular programmes. The two year undercover FBI investigation ended on 26 September 2017 with the arrest of sportswear executives and assistant coaches at major universities, and the case was called the largest criminal prosecution in the history of college sport. Pat Kondelis’s hundred and eighteen minute HBO production looks at the affair from Dawkins’s side and makes public, for the first time, wiretap recordings that remain under federal seal; neither the FBI nor the NCAA took part in the film. It was completed in 2020.
