Dobermann

A robber and his crew hit one Paris bank after another. The inspector pursuing them is bound by nothing and is more brutal than they are. The film makes no claim to realism: the cutting moves at the speed of an advert, the characters are drawn like comics, the violence is exaggerated. The narrative shows the police and the criminals acting with the same relish, which is why it caused argument in France on release. Jan Kounen directed. Vincent Cassel, Tcheky Karyo and Monica Bellucci lead. It is adapted from a series of novels. A real warning: the film uses violence as entertainment and stages some scenes to be especially disturbing. That is intent rather than failure, but it does not make it easy to watch.
