Dookudu

Ajay is a police officer. His father went into a coma after an assassination attempt and has not woken for years. Ajay wants him, when he does, to see his dream fulfilled; his father wanted him to be a politician. The father wakes unexpectedly and the doctors say he must not be excited. Ajay makes a plan: he turns the house into a politician's house, dresses his friends as aides and constituents, and keeps a lie standing all day. At the same time he is hunting the men who shot his father. Sreenu Vaitla runs action and comedy together. The comic side comes entirely from sustaining the lie; a new scene has to be staged every day and every scene produces a new problem. Mahesh Babu plays Ajay, Samantha Ruth Prabhu his partner, and Prakash Raj his father. The film was among the highest-grossing Telugu productions of its year. Who it's for: Viewers who like Telugu mass films, action comedy, and Mahesh Babu. Who it's not for: It runs very long and the shifts between the two genres are abrupt. The woman's place in the narrative is also narrow.
