Sreenu Vaitla's 2008 Telugu film follows a man trying to save his friend's beloved from a forced marriage. He abducts the wrong woman, and she is delighted, since she was already planning to escape. The humour comes from that mistake being sustained. Neither of them tells the truth and both families misread what is happening; the narrative piles up the misunderstandings and keeps bending its logic in favour of the jokes. Ram Pothineni and Genelia D'Souza lead, with Brahmanandam carrying the comic passages. The tone is light and the pace high. The film was a large commercial success in Telugu cinema and was remade in other languages. Who it's for: those who like commercial Telugu comedy. Who it's not for: viewers uncomfortable with abduction used as a romantic premise; the film treats it as a joke throughout.
