Meera is widowed shortly after her marriage and is shut into the narrow life tradition draws for her in her in-laws' house. Zeenat's husband is on trial for murder, and the only way he can escape execution is for the dead man's family to sign a pardon. That family is Meera's. Zeenat goes to Meera without saying who she is. Nagesh Kukunoor directed the film, an official remake of the 2004 Malayalam film Perumazhakkalam. Ayesha Takia and Gul Panag take the leads. The telling does not set the two women against each other; that one of them has to save the other leads both to question their own lives. Shreyas Talpade plays the travelling impersonator who brings them together.
